Castle Quest
From romhacking.net: Castle Quest is basically a pretty neat chess knockoff for the NES with RPG battles. Each piece has its own attributes and magic powers. You move the pieces around the chessboard and when they land on each other they go into a battle. Each piece then takes turns with cards, if the card rolled is higher than the opponents defense you will do damage, if not you will miss and lose a turn. Magic plays a huge role as well as it can be used on the chessboard to wreck havoc or heal your own units. The game is a lot of luck but also a lot of strategy too especially when it comes to magic. Castle Quest was a game that was supposed to be released in the US under the name “Triumph”. owever, for some reason it never was though it was released in Europe for Gameboy. The Gameboy version while in English was missing quite a few bits of the NES version and of course didn't look as good. It's by no means a high quality hacking job as I am not a very experienced rom hacker. I couldn't figure out the pointer tables so some of the text had to be quite butchered to fit. And it had a lot of oddball Japanese humor that I couldn't really understand but tried to translate the best I could. I welcome anybody else to improve this hack and will gladly provide them with my materials if they want to give it a shot. Now that said here are some “bugs” - * The name and password screens I unfortunately kinda screwed up due to how I setup the English alphabet in the ROM and didn't realize it until it was too late. All the capital letters are there but not all the lowercase so when you fill in your name I'd recommend just using uppercase. I have made all the passwords in uppercase though so you can still use those. Though they're kinda silly to use with emulator save states. * For some reason random letters like Z and X etc appear in messages through the game most notably the battles. I could not figure out how to remove these as they must be hard coded into the game somehow. I could've blanked out the letters it used but again I realized this much too late. * The tutorial throws in the statement “Cards are Used” at one point which it shouldn't. I wasn't able to figure out why it did this either. Just ignore it. * While this is the first official release and I have played through it completely and then some I won't be surprised if I missed something or there are errors. Please send me any you find and I may do an update patch to fix them in the future.
